Between Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and most recently Ariana Grande, we all seem to be so ready for the next celebrity’s breakdown – but why?
Why are we so intrigued about their lives when really they are just like us?
Well, long story short – maybe we are so intrigued because exactly – they are just like us and it gives us a certainty that what we feel is normal, or at least other that people feel that way so that’s fine.
Think about when you were younger for example and one of your classmates did something that was maybe not the right thing to do – but you do it as well and then the teacher comes to you and asks why did you do this? Your reply? Well, he/she did it too!
So not to that extent but knowing that a celebrity is feeling anxious, depressed or is going through a break up is almost reassuring for us because we are going through the same thing. Seeing someone else – especially someone who’s publicly known and praised by so many people – go through a tough time is almost reassuring because then you feel that you are not alone and you find comfort in their discomfort, weirdly.
Unfortunately, some people, instead of just feeling comfort and some kind of compassion for these celebrities will go to the extent of making fun of them or just wanting to know more and therefore invade their privacy.
With all that being said though, I think it’s so interesting that we want to know every details of celebrities’ lives (whether we admit we want these information or not) because them getting in relationships, married, getting a new house or feeling depressed is basically what a normal human being goes through in their lives as well. The only reason I can think of for us being so naively obsessed with this without realizing how normal their lives are is because they are powerful with their money and success and with that power they can almost do anything that they wish for and that’s maybe what makes us so curious about their lives? Knowing what they will be doing to get over this hard time or how they will celebrate their happy moments?
Basically, we are just curious about other human beings’ way of dealing with life stuff.
Why do you think that we are so obsessed with celebrities?
