Better known as the sweet Betty Cooper on The CW’s Riverdale, actress Lili Reinhart opened up about body shaming in her speech presented at the Glamour 2018 Women of the Year Summit.
The 22 year-old woman openly shared her thoughts on the unrealistic body standards placed on women.
This is not the first time that Reinhart talked about these issues – throughout the last year and a half, she’s been sharing her battles around mental health issues and body dysmorphia through her social media and various interviews she gave.
After watching this video, I believe it was very brave of her to also mention that she understands that it may seem “inappropriate” for someone of her smaller size to tackle these issues. “It wasn’t until I was in an industry that rewards and praises people for having a smaller waist than I will ever have”, she said.
She also says how we are not born with these insecurities. “We are told to be insecure about certain things.” She believes that women are now conditioned to feel ashamed or embarrassed about certain part of their bodies.
What do you think of Reinhart’s speech? Let me know in the comments.
