If, like me, you are a big fan of beauty pageants and Netflix movies, then I’m sure you were very happy with the streaming service’s latest, ‘Dumplin’
Directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Kristin Hahn, the movie tells the story of Willowdean aka Dumplin, the plus-size teenage daughter of a former beauty queen, who signs up for her mom’s Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town.
As much as the movie is really incredible and I recommend it to you guys 100% – I wanna share with you some of the best songs featured in it – which are all from Dolly Parton. At the beginning of the movie, it was still a bit unclear why Dolly Parton was such a big part of the music in the movie, but now that I think of it – what Parton stands more is exactly what the movie itself stands for as well. Being yourself un-apologetically. I don’t know much about Parton but from what I hear in her music and her lyrics, she’s someone who’s fierce, loving and is honest to herself – which is why the lyrics feels so personal.
Listen to her remixed songs and originals too below to get to know the legendary country singer a little bit more:
Personally, ‘9 to 5’ has been on repeat on my Spotify app!
