New Year’s Eve is less than a week from now. As every year, the pressure of having the BEST NIGHT EVER is on! Lol, personally, compared to my celebration of last year’s NYE, anything will be better than that.
You see, a few days before the 31st, I caught a pretty horrible cold which actually lasted for an additional two weeks at the start of 2018. Thinking about it now, I probably had the flu. I know.. starting the new year sick is considered bad luck, and guess what – it kinda was. The first three months of the new year I was just constantly sick and just felt horrible – no goals really, applying for jobs a little all over the place and not getting any luck in that.. It was pretty tough and weird, but that’s not the point of this blog post – this blog post will give you the insights on how I spent my final night in 2017, which honestly is my favourite story to tell.
I remember it just like it was yesterday – I was at the grocery store, getting myself a steak, some potatoes and some chocolate ice cream. I had it all planned, get a little high, eat a delicious feast, watch The Myst on Netflix and fall asleep before 11 pm. I was soooo ready!
Before going back to my uncle’s, which is where I lived for a year before moving into my apartment, I stopped by my cousin’s place to say hi really quickly. As I was telling my cousin that I was looking forward to spend NYE alone, he told me I shouldn’t and that I should come over to his place later to celebrate the countdown with him and his friends. At first I was highly hesitant but then thought, eh why not – I can simply eat at home and then go to his place.
Once I finished my amazing meal, I changed from my PJs to my sweatpants (huge difference if you ask me) and drove to his place (don’t worry, I was still sober and was planning on staying at his place anyways).
When I first got there, it was actually pretty fun! I enjoy the company of his friends and I had forgotten that I was sick. What I also seemed to have forgot is that all his friends were in a relationship, which is something I realized 10 seconds before the countdown as I was sitting in the middle of the room with Bean, my cousin’s dog, in my arms, surrounded by seven happy couples.
So yeah, instead of kissing a human being on NYE, I kissed a dog. It’s all good, I mean, Bean and I are still going strong… LOL
No but seriously, five minutes after midnight, I went downstairs and passed out.
Unfortunately, I started 2018 by being sick and I honestly think that starting your year sick will bring out some bad health luck. I had quite the year when it comes to my health – call it coincidence but I don’t know… What I do know is that I am doing everything in my power to not be sick in the next few days/ever really.
What I’m trying to convey with this post is that, no matter what kind of crazy plans you have for your NYE, just remember to not have too many high expectations and just enjoy the time with the people around you.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
